The Carolina Cyber Network recently connected with Jacob Wright from Fayetteville Technical Community College during the cybersecurity career fair. His journey reflects the drive and purpose emerging across North Carolina’s next generation of cyber talent.
Jacob began in Microsoft’s Software and Systems Academy, learning C, Maui, and Blazor. As he gained experience, he discovered a growing interest in security and started preparing for the Security+ certification. That shift opened the door to a field where he could apply his technical skills to protecting organizations and strengthening system resilience.
The SOC analyst path stands out to him. After exploring various roles, Jacob was drawn to identifying vulnerabilities, exposing exploits, and helping organizations harden their environments. His approach shows the curiosity, discipline, and mission-driven mindset that employers value.
During the career fair, Jacob met with several companies, including Stern Security, and left with new contacts and next steps for pursuing entry-level opportunities.
Students like Jacob are shaping the future of North Carolina’s cybersecurity workforce, and CCN is proud to highlight their stories.
