From Cyber Student to Trusted Professional at CVCC
At 47, Chad Pinyan proves that passion, not age, drives success. As he nears graduation from Cleveland Community College with an associate degree in Cybersecurity and Network Technology, he’s already making a meaningful impact. His journey began not with certifications or career goals, but with a commitment to protect others and share what he knows.
“Cybersecurity is more than firewalls and systems. It’s about people,” Chad says. “I’m especially passionate about helping older adults recognize and avoid scams. Too often, they’re targeted and don’t know where to turn.”
That people-first mindset led Chad to the Carolina Cyber Network’s CyberSafe Communities program. What started as an internship interview turned into a job offer. Accepting the position became a pivotal moment in his career — and one of his proudest achievements.
Today, Chad leads cyber awareness sessions for students and community members, delivering practical, real-world guidance to help them stay secure in a rapidly evolving digital world. “When I first heard about CyberSafe at a CCN meeting, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do,” he recalls.
Through CyberSafe, Chad has grown both technically and professionally. He’s strengthened his communication skills, learned to collaborate across teams, and gained the confidence to explain complex ideas in simple, relatable terms.
“My daughter will always be my greatest accomplishment,” Chad says. “But receiving that call from Marcus Holley and joining the CCN team was a defining moment in my career.”
Chad’s story proves that cybersecurity careers are open to anyone with the heart to serve and the courage to learn — no matter their stage of life. Programs like CyberSafe help build stronger communities and prepare the next generation of cyber professionals. It’s one of the ways the Carolina Cyber Network is closing the workforce gap and strengthening resilience across North Carolina.
