Tenette Prevatte, Associate Vice President for Information Technology Services and Chief Information Officer at Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC), has been appointed to the CompTIA Certification Governance Committee, a national body responsible for maintaining the integrity, relevance, and rigor of CompTIA’s globally recognized IT and cybersecurity certifications.

Prevatte is the first woman ever selected to serve on the committee.

The CompTIA Certification Governance Committee is a select group of twelve senior leaders from across industry, government, and education. The committee’s role is to ensure that CompTIA certifications remain fair, accurate, current, and aligned with real-world workforce needs by providing expert oversight throughout the exam development and review process.

“After working with CompTIA certifications for the past 15 years, I am very proud to be selected to the CompTIA Governance Committee as the first female member,” Prevatte said.

Her appointment reflects both her personal leadership in the field and the growing national influence of North Carolina’s cybersecurity and IT education ecosystem. Through institutions like FTCC and networks like the Carolina Cyber Network (CCN), North Carolina has become a meaningful contributor to shaping not only talent pipelines, but also the standards that define professional competence across the technology workforce.

CompTIA certifications such as Security+, Network+, A+, and CySA+ are widely used by employers, government agencies, and educational institutions to validate technical skills and readiness. Decisions made by the Governance Committee directly influence how future professionals are trained, evaluated, and credentialed.

Prevatte’s role on the committee ensures that perspectives from higher education, workforce development, and applied learning environments are represented alongside those from enterprise and federal sectors. It also strengthens the alignment between academic programs and the skills employers actually need.

Her selection is a milestone for FTCC, for CCN member institutions, and for the broader effort to expand opportunity, representation, and leadership within the cybersecurity and IT professions.
