Carolina Cyber Network

The October skies over Autryville, NC were filled with purpose as more than 100 drone pilots gathered for the DCOMP 2025 Drone Competition at The Range Complex. Organized by the Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, the event brought together military, academic, and industry leaders for two days of advanced flight challenges and collaboration.

Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) and the Carolina Cyber Network (CCN) were proud to participate, hosting a booth to spotlight our statewide cybersecurity internship program and the growing need for experienced adjunct faculty. The event created space for meaningful conversations around workforce development, cybersecurity training, and how we can better support transitioning service members into high-demand tech careers.

FTCC’s Continuing Education program also had a strong showing, with one of its female drone pilots taking part in the competition, an inspiring reminder of the talent emerging from nontraditional and adult education programs.

The drone challenge featured four high-pressure scenarios:

  • Navigating rings, tunnels, and ladders to test precision
  • Reconnaissance missions ahead of moving vehicles
  • A two-kilometer object search and return
  • A fast-paced warehouse observation lane

Each task reflected real-world skills valued across the defense and technology sectors, areas where FTCC and CCN continue to build bridges between classroom training and hands-on experience.

Looking Ahead: As North Carolina grows its presence in defense tech and cybersecurity, CCN and FTCC remain committed to supporting pathways for veterans, military spouses, and adult learners to step confidently into roles that protect and strengthen our communities. Whether you’re launching drones or launching a career in cybersecurity, we’re here to help you fly further.
